BCC Notice regarding ADS

From Burke Centre Conservancy:
Important Notice
regarding Trash/Recycling/Yard Waste Collection:

The Conservancy was recently informed by our trash company (American Disposal Service; alsoreferred to as “ADS”) about an industry-wide shortage
in labor force within the trash and recycling industry. This is now,
unfortunately, causing weekly delays in collection services for Conservancy
members.

Supervisor Cook’s office (Braddock District Board of Supervisors) has confirmed that the labor shortage is being felt
throughout the entire county and similar complaints and issues are being
reported to his office about service disruptions from not only ADS, but
multiple other trash companies in the local area as well.

ADS posted a statement earlier this week that was shared with Conservancy members on the web site (burkecentre.com),
in the BC BUZZ, and on the Conservancy’s Facebook page acknowledging
these problems and asking for our patience as they work tirelessly to hire and
train new staff members. They are striving to resume the good service they have
provided to our community for many years. ADS indicated that they remain hopeful
to return to the consistency and expected service levels soon.

Though currently delayed, Burke Centre is
continuing to receive its trash/recycling and yard waste collection services.
We are aware that communication is critical during this time, and ongoing
efforts are underway between ADS and Conservancy staff to help improve the
delivery time of service delay notices. Notices will continue to be posted
online at
www.burkecentre.com, in the BC Buzz, and on the Conservancy’s FB page.

The Conservancy is working daily with ADS to help them move
quickly toward resuming expected service levels for our members. In contrast,
there are only a few haulers in our area large enough to serve Burke Centre,
and with similar issues being reported in other communities who use different
haulers, this appears to be the best solution for the Conservancy at this time.
Most any other scenario falls short of the service we have come to expect from
ADS.  Ideas such as using multiple haulers for different sections of the
community, or dividing the trash, recycling and yard waste contracts have been
discussed, but for a variety of reasons, these options are not likely to
improve service and may actually cause other unwanted issues.

The Conservancy staff will continue to do everything we can to
communicate with our members, and we are currently working on a postcard mailer
to each residence to inform them of the issue.
Currently,
the Conservancy’s web site and FB offer the fastest way to communicate the
latest updates from ADS. Please also sign up for the community’s e-newsletter, The
BC BUZZ
, for email notices by sending an email to
[email protected] with SUBSCRIBE as the subject. You may unsubscribe atany time.

Our sincere thanks to all Conservancy members for their
continued patience and cooperation. We encourage members to please contact the
Conservancy office at 703.978.2928 with any questions.
